‘Reflections’ | Rachel Portman Manor

‘Reflections’ an exhibition by the artist Rachel Portman Manor invites us to capture textures, urban landscapes, decay, regeneration, neglect, the effects of time on material, erosion, transparency and reflections – in the environment, in her life & in our lives.

“Everything is reflected and mirrored – in our daily life we look through a real or virtual hatch, choosing what we’d like to acknowledge and deal with” – this approach is the source of inspiration for this exhibition that incorporates a digital rendering by the artist Rachel Portman Manor.

Portman Manor’s works are based on photographs in which she had managed to capture compositions and textures that she noticed during her day to day life and had collected throughout the last decade, while searching for precision, logic and aesthetics. The photographs that she had collected constituted as a type of canvas, on which her works were woven.

In Portman’s works, the visible is revealed in exaggeration and the hidden, taken out of context, as if asking to be explained and addressed. The dimensions of the works and the distance from the viewer create curiosity, encouraging to understand

what one actually sees.

“We live in a world where we choose (perhaps subconsciously) what we’d like to regard and what we choose to disregard.

In my works there are layers to choose from, the common and available way is to deny, on the one hand to filter (without much awareness) the parts that we can deal with and empower and strengthen them, and on the other hand to obscure and conceal matters that cause us pain and difficulty” explains Portman Manor.

In this exhibition, Portman Manor allows us a glimpse into her reflected and mirrored inner world in which she wandered continuously searching for peace and comfort.

Rachel Portman Manor makes use of various materials related to construction and building, which are so close to her core and an integral part of her professional life. Her digital processing of the images is done by exposing and hiding the original image by spots of color, which are affected by the light that reflects and mirrors through the material.

The works are printed on: OSB and MDF boards, stainless steel, cotton paper and galvanized tin.

All works are limited edition, signed with an original certificate.

בתערוכת ‘הִשְׁתַּקְּ פוּיוֹת’ מזמינה אותנו האמנית רחל פורטמן מנור ללכוד טקסטורות, נופים עירוניים, התכלות, התחדשות, הזנחה, השפעות הזמן על החומר, שחיקה, שקיפות והשתקפויות – בסביבה, בחייה, בחיינו.”

הכל נשקף ומשתקף – בחיי היומיום אנחנו צופים דרך צוהר אמיתי או וירטואלי ובוחרים במה להכיר ועם מה להתמודד” – גישה המהווה מקור השראה לתערוכה המשלבת עיבוד דיגיטלי של האמנית רחל פורטמן מנור.

יצירותיה של פורטמן מנור, מבוססות על צילומים בהן לכדה קומפוזיציות וטקסטורות שנגלו לה מהיום יום ונאספו במהלך העשור האחרון תוך כדי חיפושה אחר דיוק, הגיון ואסתטיקה. הצילומים שאספה היוו עבורה דמוי קנווס, הבסיס עליו נרקמה היצירה.

בעבודותיה של פורטמן מנור הגלוי נגלה בהגזמה והנסתר, שהוצא מהקשרו, מבקש שיבארו אותו ושיתייחסו אליו. מיימדי העבודות והמרחק מהצופה מייצרים סקרנות, להבין מה בעצם רואים. “אנחנו חיים בעולם שבו אנחנו בוחרים (אולי באופן תת הכרתי) מה לראות ואם לראות. בעבודות שלי יש שכבות לבחירה, הדרך השכיחה והזמינה היא להתכחש, מצד אחד לסנן (בלי הרבה מודעות) את החלקים שמתאים לנו להתמודד איתם להעצים ולחזק אותם, ומצד שני לטשטש ולהסתיר את המקומות של הכאב והקושי. הכל באותו זמן במקביל באותם חיים”. מבארת פורטמן מנור.

בתערוכה זו מאפשרת פורטמן מנור הצצה לתוך עולמה הפנימי הנשקף והמשתקף בו שוטטה בחיפושה המתמשך אחר שלווה ונחמה.

רחל פורטמן מנור עושה שימוש בחומרים שונים הקשורים לתכנון ובניין, שהינם כה קרובים לליבה ומהווים חלק אינטגרלי מחייה המקצועיים. העיבוד הדיגיטלי של התמונות נעשה תוך כדי חשיפה והסתרה ע”י כתמיי צבע שהאומנית משנה בתמונה המקורית, המושפעים מהאור הנשקף ומהמשתקף מבעד לחומר.

היצירות מודפסות על גבי: לוחות OSB ו- MDF ,נירוסטה, נייר כותנה ופח מגולבן.

כל העבודות הן במהדורה מוגבלת, חתומות עם תעודה מקורית.

טֶקְסְטוּרוֹת וְקוֹמְפּוֹזִיצְיוֹת /Captures of Texture & composition

בתערוכתה הראשונה “לוֹכֶדֶת /“Captures מביאה רחל לידי ביטוי דרך היצירות המוצגות את אהבותיה משכבר הימים יחדיו, צילום טקסטורות וחומרים בשילוב עריכה דיגיטלית “התערוכה היא הגשמת חלום חיי, היא נבעה מתוכי מתוך חיי ומאהבתי לחומריים תעשייתיים, בנין ואסתטיקה.” רחל פורטמן מנור.

רחל מסתכלת, בוחנת וצופה דרך עיניה את הסובב אותה, החומרים והנופים האורבניים היוצרים ואוצרים חוויות וזיכרונות ויזואליים בעיניה. היא לוכדת תמונות, מתעדת בדרכה הייחודית את הלך החיים המקיף את כולנו אך נותנת זרקור ייחודי למה שהעין הרגילה לא בהכרח קולטת וזאת דרך עריכה דיגיטלית.

ביצירותיה מבארת האומנית את הלא מובן ואת הלא ידוע בתוך ה”מוכר והידוע” ועבודותיה מעוררים אצל הצופה תדהמה מהולה בסקרנות.

בחיבור שפורטמן מנור יוצרת בעבודתה בין המסתורי המרתק למציאות היום יומית היא מצליחה ללכוד את האינטראקציה ההדוקה בין חומרים לנוף אורבני עמוס.

העבודות משקפות את רחל לוכדת קומפוזיציות מאירועים בחיי היום יום שלה תוך כדי חיפוש אחר דיוק הגיון וניקיון חזותי. העיבוד הדיגיטלי של התמונות נעשה תוך כדי חשיפה והסתרה ע”י כתמיי צבע שהאומנית מוסיפה לתמונה, המושפעים מהאור הנשקף ומהמשתקף מבעד לחומר.

בתערוכה זו בוחרת פורטמן מנור בחומרים שונים הקשורים לתכנון ובניין, שהינם כה קרובים לליבה וחלק אינטגרלי מחייה המקצועיים, להדפסת הצילומים: קרטון גלי,לוחות MDF, נירוסטה, נייר כותנה ופח מגולבן.

Captures – Rachel Portman Manor

Captures of Texture & composition

In her first exhibition “Captures”, Rachel brings to expression through her displayed art, all her passions, photographing textures and materials combined with digital editing.

“The exhibition is the fulfillment of my life’s dream. It arose out of my being, from within me and my love for industrial materials, building and aesthetics.” Rachel Portman Manor.

Rachel looks at, examines, and observes, through her eyes what surrounds her, the materials and urban landscapes that create and preserve visual experiences and memories. She captures images in a frame, and documents them in her unique way.

Rachel’s sensitivity to life’s reality, that surrounds us all, is expressed in her art by spotlight or blur images in a unique way to what the normal eye does not necessarily perceive. All this is through digital editing.

In her work, the artist clarifies the incomprehensible and the unknown within the “ familiar and known”. Her art generates

in the viewer astonishment mixed with curiosity.

Portman Manor creates in her work a connection between the fascinating mystery and everyday reality placed out of context.

She manages to capture the close interaction between materials and a busy urban landscape.

Her art reflects the capturing of compositions from events in her everyday life while searching for logical precision and visual purity. The digital processing of the images is done while exposing and hiding with spots of color that the artist adds to the image, which are affected by the visible light or images and reflected through the material.

In this exhibition, Portman Manor chooses various materials related to planning and building, materials which are very close to the core and an integral part of her professional life. The art is printed in large scale on

corrugated cardboard, MDF panels, stainless steel, cotton paper and galvanized tin and lit polycarbonate.
